New Trey Songz, with his remixed version of T.I’s “Whatever You Like”. I like this remake, it is always cool with people use parts of the original in the lyrics (a la Solange keeping the same “I’ll never be picture-perfect Beyonce” lyrics that open Kanye’s “Everything I Am”)

Oh look. She’s an Angel in Disguise. How cute.
That said, I’m not a huge fan of this video because it seems so…simple. And when I heard the song initially, I never once thought “Hey, she’s sort of like an angel, helping them out with their problems”.
I thought more along the lines of “She’s a really good friend, someone you’d like to have under your umbrella”.
(Ella…ella…ella..lol)
Anyway, maybe other’s find it to be cool? Maybe lots of folks enjoy the cameos by Ray J, Rodney Jerkins, and the husband of Tia Mowry, Corey Hardrict?

(Oh and sidebar: What the hell is up with Brandy’s obsession with walls? On 2 recently released songs, “Fall” and “1st and Love”, Brandy mentions taking it to the wall in both songs.
WTF?)

Sol-Angel Spotlight: “Would’ve Been The One”

By far and away, “Would’ve Been the One” from “Sol-Angel and the Hadley Street Dreams” is the best track on the album.
Additionally, it is the best track Solange has ever recorded (which is only 2 albums deep, but work with me). What makes this song so great is the musical arrangements, catchy lyrics, melody, and harmonies-basically everything! Solange has a unique voice, one that sometimes isn’t suited for some of the upper register ab libs she is so fond of. But with this song, she stays perfectly in her range and creates a song that is catchy, unique and old school without coming across as cliche.
